Crafting hand-drawn vignettes
Cowpoke is the the delightful and heartfelt musical work of my friend Raf Sanchez. He asked me to design and illustrate album covers for a three track EP that would a capture the ‘campfire feel’ of his stripped vocals and simple acoustic strums. Something simple, muted, and full of imperfect, textured character. After much exploration, we landed on a scrawled ballpoint pen aesthetic layered on backgrounds of sorbet-esque pastels.
When Spotify launched Canvas—a feature that allows artists to display looped GIFs or videos while a user is listening to their song—I animated the text and image of for each of the covers to create a soft, rhythmic motion to compliment his melodies.
